About the NAVI
The NAVI is for couples or pairs who want comfort on a self-drive African adventure without giving up off-road ability. The camper body sits on the back of a Toyota Hilux single cab. Pop the roof up at camp and you get 2.0 m of standing height inside, with a permanent double bed that’s ready when you are.
Unlike a motorhome, a 4×4 camper isn’t limited to tar and established campsites. The NAVI handles gravel roads, sandy tracks and remote wilderness camps, so you can go further and stay longer in places most travellers never reach. An air compressor lets you drop and re-inflate tyre pressures for sand, and a spade, axe and tow rope come standard.
You cook on two gas burners, one inside and one outside, so you can braai and boil the kettle at the same time. There’s a 40-litre fridge/freezer, a 60-litre water tank with hot water, a toilet and a handheld exterior shower. Two 12V batteries with a 220V charger keep things running off-grid, and cab air conditioning keeps you cool on long drives.
Collect the NAVI from branches in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Knysna, Windhoek, Maun or Kasane, or from pick-up points across Southern Africa, including Durban, Gaborone and Maputo. It’s a great way to do a Kruger safari, the Namibian desert or the Botswana bush. Whether you call it a 4×4 camper, a bakkie camper or a camping car, send us your route and travel dates and we’ll check availability and quote you on this 4×4 camper hire option.

NAVI FAQs
How old do I need to be to hire the NAVI?
Drivers must be 25 or older. You’ll need a valid driver’s licence printed in English, or an International Driving Permit.
What licence do I need to drive the NAVI?
The NAVI is built on a Toyota Hilux single cab, so a standard Code B (car) licence covers it.
Can I stand up inside the NAVI?
Yes, once the roof is up. Interior height is 1.81 m with the roof closed and 2.0 m with it open. Drive with the roof down, and pop it up when you get to camp.
Is there a shower and toilet?
Yes. There’s a toilet on board and a handheld exterior shower with hot water. The 60-litre tank supplies both the shower and the kitchen.
Can I camp off-grid in the NAVI?
Yes. Two 12V batteries keep the fridge and lights running without campsite power, and you cook on gas. Plug into 220V at a campsite to recharge the batteries.
