A 4×4 camper combines four-wheel-drive capability with camping and sleeping equipment. Depending on the vehicle, this may include rooftop or integrated tents, refrigeration, cooking equipment, water storage and camping furniture.

Motorhomes generally provide greater interior comfort and are well suited to established roads and campsites.

4×4 campers are better suited to adventurous routes, remote destinations and journeys where road conditions may be more challenging.

Yes. Cross-border travel is possible with many of the motorhomes, 4×4 campers and rental vehicles offered through Ideal Travel.

Popular cross-border journeys include combinations of South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini and Mozambique.

Cross-border travel is subject to the rental supplier’s conditions and may require additional documentation, letters of authority and fees.

You must tell us every country you intend visiting when requesting your quote so that we can check whether your chosen vehicle is permitted to travel there.

Never take a rental vehicle across an international border without prior approval from the rental supplier.

Minimum rental periods vary between suppliers and can depend on the vehicle, season and collection location.

A 7-day rental is generally preferred, although some suppliers may approve shorter rentals of approximately 3 to 4 days on request.

Shorter rentals are subject to supplier approval and vehicle availability.
