What's included when I hire a 4x4 camper?
Most 4×4 campers include a rooftop or built-in tent, bedding, a camp fridge, cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery, and camping chairs and a table. Equipment varies by vehicle and supplier, so check each vehicle’s details page or ask us for a full equipment list.
Do I need off-road driving experience?
Most routes in national parks such as Kruger and Etosha are on tar or well-maintained gravel roads and don’t need off-road experience. Remote areas of Botswana and northern Namibia involve sand and more demanding tracks. If that’s part of your route, tell us and we’ll recommend a suitable vehicle.
Can I take a 4x4 camper into Namibia and Botswana?
Yes, most of our 4×4 campers can cross into Namibia and Botswana with supplier approval. Cross-border travel usually requires a letter of authority and additional fees. Tell us every country on your route when you request a quote.
Should I choose a 2 sleeper or 4 sleeper 4x4 camper?
A 2 sleeper suits couples and solo travellers and is easier to drive and set up. A 4 sleeper, usually on a double cab or Land Cruiser chassis, has sleeping space for families or two couples. Several 4 sleepers have a double tent plus additional beds.
Are automatic 4x4 campers available?
Yes. The GWM Tank (Group B), GWM P300 (Group D), Ford Ranger (Groups L and N) and Suzuki Jimny are automatic. Most Toyota Hilux and Land Cruiser campers are manual.
