About the Discoverer 4
The Discoverer 4 is designed and built by the supplier’s own motorhome factory. It suits families and two couples travelling together. There are two double beds, and the bathroom has a chemical cassette toilet, a shower and a wash basin. A 20-litre geyser gives you hot and cold water.
Cruise control, electric windows and the 8-speed automatic make long days on the N1 or the B1 easy. Air conditioning in the cab keeps you cool while you drive, and the 220V unit in the living area cools things down once you’re connected to power at the campsite.
The kitchen has an 80-litre fridge/freezer, a 2-plate gas stove and a 220V microwave, plus all the crockery, cutlery and cookware you need. Four camping chairs and a camping table set up outside in minutes. A lockable safe keeps your valuables secure while you’re out exploring.
Collect the Discoverer 4 in Johannesburg, Cape Town or Windhoek. It’s a great way to tour the Garden Route, the Cape Winelands, the Kruger or Namibia’s long open roads. The Discoverer 4 is approved for travel in South Africa and Namibia. You can drive through Botswana on main roads between South Africa and Namibia. What licence do I need to drive the Discoverer 4?
The Discoverer 4 is built on a 3,500 kg Iveco Daily, so a standard Code B (car) licence covers it. Visitors need a valid licence printed in English, or an International Driving Permit.
Is a 6.7 m motorhome hard to drive?
Not really. The 8-speed automatic, power steering and cruise control make it easy on the open road. Remember that it’s 2.78 m high, so watch out for low bridges, fuel station canopies and shopping-centre parking garages.
Can I use the aircon and microwave without campsite power?
The cab air conditioning runs while you drive. The living-area aircon and the microwave need 220V power, so use them when you’re plugged in at a campsite. The fridge, lights, water pump, and gas stove work off-grid.
How far can I drive on a tank?
With a 70-litre tank and consumption of about 12L/100km, expect roughly 550–580 km. Fill up whenever you can on long rural stretches, especially in Namibia.
