About the Discoverer FunXA
The Discoverer FunXA is for couples or pairs (even solo travelers) who want motorhome comforts with the go-anywhere ability of a 4×4. Most off-road campers leave out a full kitchen and an on-board toilet. The FunXA has both, and that’s why it’s a favourite with travellers who go deep into the bush.
The roof sits 8 cm lower than a standard body, and the top cupboards are canvas instead of solid units. Both changes lower the centre of gravity, so the FunXA feels more stable on rough tracks. There’s also exterior storage all the way around for recovery gear, firewood and camp kit.
The 2.4L turbo diesel delivers 110 kW and 400 Nm through a 6-speed automatic with high and low range. Power steering and ABS brakes make long days on gravel easy. Two full spare wheels, an 85-litre fuel tank and a jerry can give you peace of mind on remote routes.
Inside, you sleep on a double bed, with a chemical cassette toilet, a 2-plate gas stove, an 80-litre fridge/freezer and a lockable safe. Cab air conditioning keeps you cool between stops. Is the Discoverer FunXA the same as the FunX?
The FunXA replaces the Discoverer FunX. The idea is the same: a 2 sleeper off-road motorhome with a kitchen and toilet. It’s now built on a Toyota Hilux with a 6-speed automatic, a lower roof and a bigger 85-litre fuel tank.
What licence do I need to drive the Discoverer FunXA?
The FunXA is built on a Toyota Hilux, so a standard Code B (car) licence covers it. Visitors need a valid licence printed in English, or an International Driving Permit.
Is the FunXA a motorhome or a 4x4 camper?
It’s both. You get motorhome features like an indoor bed, a kitchen and an on-board toilet, on a Toyota Hilux 4×4 chassis built for gravel, sand and remote tracks.
Is there a shower?
No. The FunXA has a chemical cassette toilet and a cold water supply, but no shower, so plan to use campsite ablutions. If you want your own shower, look at our motorhomes.
Can I take the Discoverer FunXA to Botswana?

How far can I drive on a tank?
With an 85-litre tank and consumption of about 13L/100km, expect roughly 650 km, plus the jerry can as a reserve. Fill up whenever you can, because fuel stops are far apart in Botswana and Namibia.
